| 2030 Shadow Pine Drive,Brandon,FL 33511 Vases - Original Hand-Built Ceramic ArtThese and other works by Susan O'Hara can be found at Clay Heads, where they are available for purchase.Vases vary in shape and size, adorned with faces. They are not designed in advance, as a result no two are alike. I use hand-building techniques for my vases, rather than a pottery wheel. The shape changes during the hand-building with each addition of clay slab or coil, resulting in an individual, distinctly unique vase. Vases range from 11" to 14" in height. Vases are glazed within so that they hold fresh flowers with water, if desired. I sometimes use stains or glazes to enhance the vase's external color. This style evolved together with my modern primitive approach to sculpture in general. I have been influenced by such artists as Moore (how could one not be?), Picasso - in expression of reality - and Miro, with freedom of line. The new uses of form which they introduced and elaborated upon over the course of their lives have affected my perspective in representing human form. My vases, therefore, are a marriage between shape of vase - itself an interaction with the clay - and facial presentation. Nevertheless, I believe you will note an underlying stylistic consistency which identifies my vases. While many vases are electric-kiln fired, some vases are first burnished with white terra sigilata to achieve a different look. First a bisque firing, then pit-fired with cedar chips and ignited. The smoky grey and black achieved in pit firing complements the white background. $65 + S&H Each
