terracotta pottery  The only earlier pieces which can be reasonably compared are those from the Royal Graves at Ur, in particular the superb gold diadem of Queen Shubad. The contemporary gold treasures of the second city of Troy and Poliochni on Lemnos attest the wealth and prosperity of those towns, but fall far short of the Cretan jewellery in richness.
